NFA Promotes Consumer Choice in Connecticut

This week, Connecticut was next on the list of state legislatures considering a bill that would expand consumer’s choice of available fireworks . Specifically, this bill would increase the variety of devices sold in Connecticut greater than what is currently allowed. Presently, the only thing allowed to be sold is sparklers and fountains.  There are some provisions of the bill that the NFA doesn’t agree with – specifically the provision that sales need to be done at a brick-and-mortar location. We believe that could severely limit the ability for small fireworks businesses and groups like Veterans organizations, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and school booster clubs from selling fireworks to raise money at tents and roadside stands. However, this bill has been written in compliance with the Connecticut Building Code and State Fire Prevention Code. To change that would take more work in a separate effort.
