Press Release: National Fireworks Association Statement on Peter Feldman Confirmation to Consumer Products Safety Commission

WASHINGTON –  National Fireworks Association Executive Director Nancy Blogin today released the following statement after the United States Senate confirmed Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) Nominee Peter Feldman by a vote of 80-19. “On behalf of the National Fireworks Association, I want to congratulate Peter Feldman on his confirmation to the CPSC.” “As a Commissioner, and former Congressional staffer, Peter Feldman will bring unique insights to the decision making process as the CPSC nears a decision on the proposed rule on metallic powders in the burst charges in consumer aerial fireworks.  For consumers, the NFA believes he will be a voice for safety.  We look forward to him reviewing the scientific data we provided yesterday to his soon to be colleagues on how the current CPSC NPR regarding metallic powders in burst charges of consumer aerial fireworks does not lead to an increase in the safety of consumer aerial fireworks.” About NFA : The  National

WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association (NFA) today reached the 5,000 mark on signers of a petition to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) urging them to listen to the science presented by the NFA and defeat the proposed NPR on metallic powder. This morning, the NFA delivered by priority mail 4,688 signatures to each CPSC commissioner. “For the NFA and our members, the number one priority is safety,”  said Nancy Blogin, Executive Director of the National Fireworks Association. “Without safe products, we wouldn’t be the nearly one billion dollar a year industry that we are today.  The CPSC needs to read the data we’ve provided, process the science, and listen to our members about how this rule is misguided and will not make consumer aerial fireworks any safer.” The NFA began its petition drive two weeks ago in Wichita, KS at its annual fireworks expo. Some highlights of the petition include: 4,688 signatures delivered to the CPSC this morni

Press Release: NFA Study Proves No Rational Basis Exists for CPSC’s Proposed Ban on Powdered Metals

WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association (NFA) today delivered to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) a test report with empirical data proving that the proposed powdered metals ban lacks a rational basis because it would permit more energetic burst charges than those that it bans.   The test report from a DOT-approved explosive test lab compared the energy outputs of two burst charges—one that would be banned by the proposed rule and the other that would be allowed.  The testing showed that the burst charge that would be banned under the proposed rule has less explosive energy than the burst charge that would allowed. Further, the burst charge that would be banned is less expensive and less susceptible to ignition by shock or impact than the burst charge that would be banned.  In other words, the CPSC’s proposed rule would result in more energetic, more expensive, and less stable fireworks than those that have been safely enjoyed by American consumers for ye
