WJLA-TV: CPSC demonstrate fireworks dangers on the National Mall ahead of Independence Day

On June 27, NFA Secretary Steve House attended a press conference on firework safety conducted by the CPSC on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Afterwards, local ABC affiliate WJLA caught up with Houser. From WJLA.com : The National Fireworks Association says this year’s Federal warning in D.C. is over blown and says following directions on commercially sold legal fireworks is the key to everyone's safety.    " It is good I guess to show people the worst case scenario but I certainly don't think this is representative of the consumer fireworks that are really bought and sold thru out the country," says Stephen Houser, who is the Secretary of the National Fireworks Association. Press Release: NFA Releases Reminds Consumers to Use Fireworks Safely on Fourth of July

WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association today  released a video  highlighting for consumers safe and responsible ways to use fireworks this coming Independence Day.  The video demonstrates how to safely set up your fireworks, how to use them appropriately, and how to properly dispose of them after celebrating.  “The NFA wants everyone to have a safe Independence Day holiday and reminds everyone to use our products responsibly,”  said NFA Executive Director Nancy Blogin. “Fireworks and alcohol do not mix and Fourth of July celebrations should always have a designated shooter.” The video highlights helpful tips like having on hand a bucket of water or garden hose, how to properly block-and-brace your fireworks to ensure they’re steady before igniting the fuse and the safest way to dispose of them. It also reminds consumers to never try and relight a dud.  “ A fireworks charge is designed to ignite when the fuse is lit. One of the biggest mistakes consumers c
