Industry Warns of “ Very Real Possibility” of a Fourth Without Fireworks WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association (NFA) yesterday sent a letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg calling attention to the problems facing the transportation, logistics and supply chain of our nation’s consumer fireworks industry.  After signing the American Rescue Plan, President Biden addressed Americans in prime time and gave them hope that they could begin resuming to normalcy with small gatherings of friends and families by the Fourth of July. But the grave reality is that if many Americans expect to gather on the Fourth of July and celebrate our nation’s birthday with fireworks, as they normally would, they may be sorely disappointed.  “The pandemic has thrown the world’s transportation network into total chaos creating obstacles at every turn,”  NFA President Steve Houser and over 1,300 NFA members, fireworks company owners and employees wrote to the ...

NFA Promotes Consumer Choice in Connecticut

Image
This week, Connecticut was next on the list of state legislatures considering a bill that would expand consumer’s choice of available fireworks . Specifically, this bill would increase the variety of devices sold in Connecticut greater than what is currently allowed. Presently, the only thing allowed to be sold is sparklers and fountains.  There are some provisions of the bill that the NFA doesn’t agree with – specifically the provision that sales need to be done at a brick-and-mortar location. We believe that could severely limit the ability for small fireworks businesses and groups like Veterans organizations, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and school booster clubs from selling fireworks to raise money at tents and roadside stands. However, this bill has been written in compliance with the Connecticut Building Code and State Fire Prevention Code. To change that would take more work in a separate effort. Regardless of this specific provision, we applaud Representative Wood fo...

The National Fireworks Association Reminds Americans to #ShootSafely this Fourth of July

Image
KANSAS CITY, Mo –  With consumer fireworks sales across the country far outpacing previous years, the National Fireworks Association (NFA), the nation’s leading advocates for consumer fireworks, released safety tips to help ensure Americans shoot safely while celebrating our nation’s birthday.    COVID-19 is playing a big role in how Americans are celebrating Independence Day. After socially distancing for the past few months, Americans are anxious to celebrate. With large professional fireworks displays being canceled around the country and the Fourth of July falling on a weekend, more Americans are choosing to celebrate with consumer fireworks because they can still come together with friends and neighbors while being socially distanced.  “With our country opening back up, Americans want to celebrate the Fourth of July and express their patriotism with friends and family,”  said Steve Houser, President of the National Fireworks Association. ...
