NFA Writes to Secretary Pete Buttigieg Asking to Unload Our Ports

Industry Warns of “ Very Real Possibility” of a Fourth Without Fireworks WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association (NFA) yesterday sent a letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg calling attention to the problems facing the transportation, logistics and supply chain of our nation’s consumer fireworks industry.  After signing the American Rescue Plan, President Biden addressed Americans in prime time and gave them hope that they could begin resuming to normalcy with small gatherings of friends and families by the Fourth of July. NFA Promotes Consumer Choice in Connecticut

This week, Connecticut was next on the list of state legislatures considering a bill that would expand consumer’s choice of available fireworks . Specifically, this bill would increase the variety of devices sold in Connecticut greater than what is currently allowed. Presently, the only thing allowed to be sold is sparklers and fountains.  There are some provisions of the bill that the NFA doesn’t agree with – specifically the provision that sales need to be done at a brick-and-mortar location. We believe that could severely limit the ability for small fireworks businesses and groups like Veterans organizations, Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and school booster clubs from selling fireworks to raise money at tents and roadside stands. However, this bill has been written in compliance with the Connecticut Building Code and State Fire Prevention Code. To change that would take more work in a separate effort. NFA Shares Concerns with Congress about China's New 30mm Policy

The following letter on the China's 30 mm policy was sent to the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation Ranking, Congressman Member Sam Graves (R-MO) and Congressman Rick Crawford, Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. The same letter was also sent to Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) who is the Chairman fo the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee and Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE), who is the Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety.  These four elected officials sit in positions of enormous consequence to the NFA on this issue and their committees that they lead help insure the safe and timely transportation of commerce through United States.   NFA also sent the letter to:   Senator Jerry Moran, who serves as the Chairman of the Seante Appropriations Committee's subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science and Related Agencies which is the committee that oversees the budget for the Consume

Senator Rounds Resolution on Fireworks Applauded by NFA
