WJLA-TV: CPSC demonstrate fireworks dangers on the National Mall ahead of Independence Day

On June 27, NFA Secretary Steve House attended a press conference on firework safety conducted by the CPSC on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Afterwards, local ABC affiliate WJLA caught up with Houser.

The National Fireworks Association says this year’s Federal warning in D.C. is over blown and says following directions on commercially sold legal fireworks is the key to everyone's safety.  
"It is good I guess to show people the worst case scenario but I certainly don't think this is representative of the consumer fireworks that are really bought and sold thru out the country," says Stephen Houser, who is the Secretary of the National Fireworks Association.

NFA Writes to Secretary Pete Buttigieg Asking to Unload Our Ports

Industry Warns of “ Very Real Possibility” of a Fourth Without Fireworks WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association (NFA) yesterday sent a letter to Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg calling attention to the problems facing the transportation, logistics and supply chain of our nation’s consumer fireworks industry.  After signing the American Rescue Plan, President Biden addressed Americans in prime time and gave them hope that they could begin resuming to normalcy with small gatherings of friends and families by the Fourth of July. Washington Times: Nervous fireworks sellers hope Trump's trade war with China is a dud

From the Washington Times : Mr. Houser of the National Fireworks Association said he heard the news about the postponement of tariffs after a meeting between Mr. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping while he was sitting in his office at 1 a.m. last week.   “I’m very happy to see that at this point it has been delayed because at the end of the whole discussion, I have nowhere else to go as a fireworks importer,” he said.  Mr. Houser said he talked with many fireworks retailers and vendors across the country leading up to July 1. He said they asked him whether they should raise the prices of their fireworks because of the trade tensions and potential tariffs.
