PRESS RELEASE: NFA Statement on Trump’s Proposed 10% Tariffs on Chinese Imports

WASHINGTON – National Fireworks Association (NFA) Secretary Steve Houser today released the following statement after President Trump announced he’s proposing 10% tariffs beginning September 1 on $300 billion worth of Chinese imports:

“It’s unfortunate that the President has chosen to go this route again. It’s unfortunate for the small family businesses who import and distribute fireworks. It’s unfortunate for the nonprofit organizations like Veteran’s groups, school boosters and churches who sell them.

“The President himself has tweeted in the past that tariffs are taxation. They are; and American’s don’t need a boom tax on their fireworks. Unless the President proposes to radically change the wage and regulatory environment, China will remain the source for 95% of our nation’s consumer fireworks.  We simply have no other option. This will force us to simply suffer under another tax.”

About NFA: The National Fireworks Associationis a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the safety of consumer fireworks. Importers, distributors, manufacturers and sellers of commercial fireworks make up the over 1200 small businesses member companies who operate in the United States.
