PRESS RELEASE: NFA APPLAUDS CPSC ACTION ON FEDERAL FIREWORKS REGULATION



WASHINGTON – The National Fireworks Association (NFA) President Steve Houser today released the following statement after the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted down the staff package on a proposed rule to amend current fireworks regulations:

“The NFA is pleased that the commission recognized the deficiencies that were in the proposed rule and chose not to implement them.

“We are very happy they saw the flaws pertaining to the powdered metals portion.  There was no data to show that the rule would have led to safer products.   In fact some data showed that the rule could have potentially led to a more energetic and explosive product.

“Aside from the powdered metals, the NFA supported the other provisions of the proposed rule.  Today’s vote indicates that there is still work to be done.  The NFA is wholly committed to the safety of the public and the safe use of our products.

“To Commissioner Baiocco’s point this morning, our industry needs to come together to develop voluntary standards for the industry and the NFA remains committed to working with our members on the right standards based on science and data.”

Press Release: NFA Releases Reminds Consumers to Use Fireworks Safely on Fourth of July

WASHINGTON –  The National Fireworks Association today  released a video  highlighting for consumers safe and responsible ways to use fireworks this coming Independence Day.  The video demonstrates how to safely set up your fireworks, how to use them appropriately, and how to properly dispose of them after celebrating.  “The NFA wants everyone to have a safe Independence Day holiday and reminds everyone to use our products responsibly,”  said NFA Executive Director Nancy Blogin. “Fireworks and alcohol do not mix and Fourth of July celebrations should always have a designated shooter.” The video highlights helpful tips like having on hand a bucket of water or garden hose, how to properly block-and-brace your fireworks to ensure they’re steady before igniting the fuse and the safest way to dispose of them. Washington Times: Nervous fireworks sellers hope Trump's trade war with China is a dud

From the Washington Times : Mr. Houser of the National Fireworks Association said he heard the news about the postponement of tariffs after a meeting between Mr. Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping while he was sitting in his office at 1 a.m. last week.   “I’m very happy to see that at this point it has been delayed because at the end of the whole discussion, I have nowhere else to go as a fireworks importer,” he said.  Mr. Houser said he talked with many fireworks retailers and vendors across the country leading up to July 1. He said they asked him whether they should raise the prices of their fireworks because of the trade tensions and potential tariffs.
